3. Article ID. 0010 : Repurposing of Thioridazine as Anticancer Agent: An Overview

Authors: Reena Ghumare, Gracy Mascaranace, Nishant Khatri, Tanuja Masane

Abstract: Thioridazine was an antipsychotic drug which was widely used to treat schizophrenia and psychosis but had been abandoned due to its cardio-toxic effect including arrhythmia. Some years back, it was analyzed that the patients under its treatment showed significantly lower risk of getting cancer (-1.04%). The study for various types of cancer including Glioblastoma, Hepatocellular carcinoma, Breast Cancer, Gastric cancer, Esophageal Cancer, Colon Cancer with on-going experiments has been practiced. The prevalence and dose-dependent effect was also studied for investigating the adverse drug effects as well as any toxicological conditions. Thioridazine has been used as a combination adjuvant alongside many drugs. The clinical results were reported with its mechanism and the pharmacology as well. In this review, we summarize the recent studies on anticancer activities of Thioridazine and studies for further advancements.

Keywords : Thioridazine, Glioblastoma, Hepatocellular carcinoma, Breast Cancer, Gastric cancer, Esophageal Cancer.

Authors: Abhilash Mullasseril

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic is still continuing as a completely unresolvable problem in front of the scientific community that needs an effective scientific solution even though some vaccines were invented and developed in a short span of research. The scientific community is keenly observing to prove those vaccines for their complete therapeutic effects. It is also worthwhile to discuss about the two major drug formulations viz. Ayush-64 and Coronil Tablets that are formulated for improving the health conditions. The respective ingredients of these herbal formulations were critically studied based on the classical texts and computed the therapeutic effects in terms of Tridoshas the three somatic humours, the very fundamental principle of Ayurveda. Finally, the Drug Efficacy Indices [Q(VPK)] of those two formulations were computed, compared and reported.

Keywords: The Drug Efficacy Index [Q(VPK)], CORONIL, AYUSH-64, COVID-19, Ayurveda, Herbal Formulations.

6. Article ID. 0013 : Unani System of Medicine – An Overview

Authors: Shirin Shaikh, Harshal Ashok Pawar

Abstract: Unani system of medicine is one of the oldest systems which was originated in Greece by Hippocrates. According to this system human body is composed of the four basic elements like earth, water, air, fire and the body fluid is composed of blood, phlegm, yellow bile, black bile. Also, it talks about four temperaments. Bringing about harmony among the disturbance in the above is the aim of treatment. Unani medicine believes in the promotion of health, prevention of diseases through various modes of treatment i.e., regimental therapy, diet therapy, pharmacotherapy, surgery. It has been using the drugs of herbal, animal and mineral origin. Government of India established a Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine to develop this system in its own theoretical framework. This review gives an overview of unani system of medicine.

Abstract: In recent years, transdermal drug delivery systems have acquired a lot of attention of researchers across the world. Encapsulation of the drug in ethanol-based lipid carrier like ethosomes has been widely recognized as one of the simple and convenient approach to accomplish the permeation of drug via skin. These are non-invasive particulate transporter that reaches drug in deep skin layers and the systemic circulation. Over the liposomes, ethosomes have higher penetration rate through the skin. The increased permeation of ethosomes is apparently due to the presence of ethanolic content in it. Basically, ethosomes are composed of phospholipids, ethanol and water. Ethosomes come up with a number of advantages including improved drug delivery, efficacy, patient compliance and easement. This review focuses on the various aspects of ethosomes likes excipients various method of preparation, characterization, applications, patent reports and future prospects.

Abstract: Microbeads are solid plastic particles which are less than 1 mm in size and added to personal care products such as soap, facial scrub and toothpaste as exfoliating agents mainly to remove dead cells from the skin. They are often added as an exfoliant or application enhancer in personal care products such as rinse off cosmetics, and cleaning products. The over use of plastic results in accumulation of plastic waste in our ecosystems. They are not captured by most of the waste water treatment systems. Now a days, various countries started to ban microbeads for avoiding possible hazards and future consequences related to ecosystem. In present work, we have covered details of sources of microbeads, their toxic effects on biological and ecological system, precautions to be taken and finding of alternatives for microbeads.
